MARCH 2019

In March 2019, Faith in Action Alabama’s secured a public commitment from the mayor of Huntsville that the city’s police force would participate in implicit bias testing.

  

FEBRUARY 2019

In February 2019, Faith in Action Alabama’s Mobile Hub held a community action, attended by over 200 people, to educate about the importance of creating a public defender’s office and highlight to county officials community support for the creation of a Mobile County public defender’s office. (Only 5 of 67 counties in Alabama have a public defender’s office.)

NOVEMBER 2018

Leading up the 2018 November elections, Faith in Action Alabama, through the work of its 4 Hubs, engaged through non-partisan work over 30,000 voters. For the first time in history, Jefferson County (Birmingham area) elected an African American to serve a sheriff and district attorney.

JUNE 2018

In June 2018, in Birmingham, attended by over 700 people, held community action, at which secured commitment from the city’s to co-create with Faith in Action Alabama and community stakeholders an anti-gun violence plan based on proven gun violence reduction strategies. In regards to the Birmingham Hub’s Peacemaker (anti-gun violence campaign), its grassroots leaders:  have been conducting weekly night walks in a neighborhood hard-hit by gun violence; are about to launch youth campaign and  start sending out rapid response victims teams; and are engaging city officials and other stakeholders to secure funding support for an anti-gun violence strategy that has reduced gun violence by 66 percent over the past 7 years in Rihmond, California

APRIL 2017

In April 2017, Faith in Action Alabama held its founding convention, which was attended by over 1,000 people from across the state.  At the convention, Faith in Action Alabama highlighted personal testimonies about systemic racism and white privilege, put forward policy analysis that explained key public decisions that have driven and drive systemic racism and put forward clear next steps for dismantling systemic racism.
